    If a visitor to the U.S. is a citizen of a country that is included in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (ESTA) and they marry a U.S. citizen while in the U.S. on a Visa Waiver, they may be eligible to adjust their status (receive a "green card") without having to return to their home country. In order to determine if this is possible, they should contact a U.S. immigration attorney who is experienced in handling this type of adjustment of status. The location of the attorney is not important as long as he or she is experienced in obtaining green cards for foreigners in this situation.
